No waist zone
Flaunting your curves just became a little passé as the ‘no waist look’ is the haute new trend from the Spring/ Summer 2013 catalogue.
Keeping things chic and sexy in a waist-less manner is no easy feat, yet designer label A Detacher ditched the curvacious route for a stunning waist-less line of knee-length dresses, tops, jumpsuits in monochromes of navy blue, bright red and turquoise, earthy mustard and brown, at the New York Fashion Week S/S 2013.
On the same ramp, Mara Hoffman chose a happy coordination of colours to drive home the point. Flaunting colour blocking and a deluge of prints on maxis and resort wear ensured her waist-free creations were not short on the oomph factor.
Designer Chhaya Mehrotra finds the idea alluring enough to transform and include some of its elements in her S/S line. She says, “The no waist defining silhouette can be a perfect summer day wear as it has an air of ease around it and also makes a lovely feminine picture. A straight tunic that ends on a short note is perfect for the bold fashionista, while the kaftan in its original avatar perfectly fits the waist-free bill for demure women. For embellishments hand-block prints look quite perfect.”
Designer Nachiket Barve too is ready to send the structured pattern for a temporary toss. “No point restricting it in the casual category when it can be a sexy evening wear. A one shoulder short waist-less frock can make you look glamorous. And, remember, the most fashionable three letters that goes as LBD can comfortably live in a no-waist zone.”
In complete tandem with the mood, designer Abhishek Dutta feels. “It’s a wrong notion that hiding the waistline translates as looking out of style. All you need is the right attitude to drape yourself in a sack dress and still look like a million bucks. Go for monochromes or pick tribal and tea cup prints in straight cuts or empire lines to make the trend work best. A long waist-less midi in cool summer shades and prints with limited ruffles and strappy strings to hold on the shoulder can never go out of fashion. So try it without a a hint of doubt.”
