Nexus 4 RIP. Hello Nexus 5?
Last month, Google drastically cut prices for its signature smartphone with LG — the Nexus 4, from $350 to $250 (`21,000 to `15,500) in the US, causing the phone to be completely sold out in a matter of weeks. Popular tech blog — The Verge revealed that sources had told them that the phone is not coming back.
The Nexus 4 was the clear dominator in its price-range, in the words of an internet commentator: the Nexus 4 was a phone whose nearest competitor cost twice as much. The unusual move to slash prices and dump inventory has industrial speculators convinced that Google is retiring the device to pave way for its next joint venture with LG.
Although it may also be notable that the Nexus 4 stock dump coincides with the launch of Google-owned Motorola’s MotoX, which is another extremely innovative design, the two phones, however, operated in very different price ranges.
This has led people to believe that the successor to the wildly successful Nexus 4 — (tentatively being called the Nexus 5) is close to being released, which would cater to the same segment of the market as the Nexus 4.
In the short run, because of the cut in the supply and the unilateral price drop, there is going to be an inflation in the prices of the phone. The best move might be to wait and see what the next Google phone has in store.
