New Year’s funfare

As the semester examinations just got over, for many college students it is time for week long merriment. As the New Year and Christmas vacations are round the corner, many students are planning to spend time with family and heading home for holidays. College hostels may be half empty at this time of the year, but those who have stayed back are planning their fun schedule for this vacation time.
For outstation students who couldn’t make it home this year, the winter vacation plans are still not dampened as there are many other interesting activities that are keeping them busy on and off campus. Akshay Verma, a first year engineering student at JSS Academy of Technical Education, says, “This year I will be spending the New Year’s Eve with my college friends. At the college hostel we are planning to organise a bonfire on the terrace and arrange a midnight meal. We have started collecting funds for the New Year’s party already. We also plan to have a get-together in the evening and have a dance party in the hostel.”
Several students are planning to enjoy the Dilli ki sardi and usher in New Year on an upbeat note. Jattin Shukla, a DU student says, “We are planning to organise a house party at my friend’s apartment. We will be inviting at least 15 more friends and having a blast. We might also choose a fun theme and dress up in costumes.”
Many outstation students, who have stayed back for vacations, are also planning short trips to nearby vacation spots. Deepak Kumar, third year B.Com student at Hansraj College says, “My friends and I are planning to go to Jim Corbett National park for the vacations. Since it is very cold, we are taking lots of warm clothes and plan to spend New Year’s Eve in the jungle.”
Shika Malhotra, BA student at LSR College, is also planning to utilise her holidays by travelling to Rajasthan with hostel friends. She says, “I am planning to go to Jaipur and Ajmer. I have my shopping list ready and I need to buy a lot of colourful stuff from Jaipur. I think it is the right time to go there since it isn’t too cold there yet, and I can spend two days and come back for the next college session.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
