Musicians gear up for mega carnival

If you are planning to hit Goa this month then make sure you witness the biggest musical extravaganza, the Indian Music Conference (IMC) 2010. The first of its kind congregation of musicians, artistes and people in the music industry will be held from November 17-20 for music lovers. From hip-hop, rock, jazz to Indian classical and fusion, enthusiasts can enjoy various genres of music in these four days and get an opportunity to network with people in the same business.

The IMC 2010 aims to promote music and reach out to music lovers at various levels, informs Salama Yamini, head IMC. She says, “We plan to bring diverse musical genres together on a single platform through this event. The main idea is to popularise music through right networking. We have invited over 400 people including music producers, record label producers, music directors, music magazine editors, musicians, instrument manufacturers among others.”
The event kickstarts with the ‘Sun Downer act’ by top-notch Indian musicians and bands. Delhi-based Veshesh Da, a percussionist who will be performing at the IMC tells us about his expectations from this gathering. He says, “I am excited to go and witness this musical amalgamation and play in front of so many people. It will be great to meet people, who understand and appreciate my kind of music, which is more about fusion and is experimentation. I am looking forward to some great gigs by renowned bands too.”
Bands like B.L.O.T, Thermal and a Quarter, One Tribe, Bandish, Mrigya, Pink Noise and Parikrama are lined up to perform at this event organised by the Spotlight event and entertainment private limited. A lot of international artistes are also set to be at the event.
Djane Hera Salinas from Austria, who will be participating at the do, is excited to be a part of IMC and says, “I will be playing progressive house music and I am looking forward to experimenting with various styles. I have played in India before and got a tremendous response. This is going to be one crazy experience.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
