Music finds stage on city balconies
Music lovers often complain about the commercialisation of music and dearth of independent performances at a popular platform. The Delhi edition of Balcony TV was recently launched to present music without boundaries.
The concept of Balcony TV is very simple, it’s an online music show with over 26 million video views across the globe, and it is designed specially to provide independent musicians in India an international platform.
Already a rage in the UK, the USA, France, Mexico, South Africa, New Zealand, Turkey, Spain, Russia and many other countries, the online show has now reached India. At Balcony TV, the artists get to perform in an open air balcony that has a backdrop of the city.
Pragya Tiwari, one of the creative producers of the show, says, “The idea is to break the barrier between song and city by taking music out of sanitised studios and auditoriums. The quality of sound and visuals in these videos is extremely important to us, so that is a priority. Each video will provide the listener with an excellent live recording of the song, and introduce a slice of the city — its sights and sounds, to explore the different dimensions of the music.”
Within three days of launch, there have been non-stop messages and phone calls for the team of the online show.
“We have been getting so many requests from across the country, and there are so many interesting artists we would like to feature solo as well as in collaboration. We are not very keen on established names as the concept is to bring one great, original and fresh song a week,” adds Pragya.
