Muse tales from designers’ closet
Recently, capital’s leading designers got together at the launch of new store in one of the posh malls in the city. The remarkable thing at this do was, designers bought their muses along with them. For any creative person a muse is an inspiration, it’s a source that provokes them to create something unique. We checked with city designers on the real life muses who always top their list of favourites.
Some people are inspirational style icons only because they give us visions beyond the regular and they make us think more and get inspired, feels designer Joy Mitra. He says, “Stylish people, not necessarily celebrities. They are people who are mostly clear about their likes and dislikes. I personally feel Sheila Dikshit is very stylish and she knows what to wear and according to her age and with dignity. The other person I find stylish is FDCI president Sunil Sethi as he knows what to wear and when, he is always perfectly dressed. Also Sharmila Tagore is a perfect style icon for me, her selections are mostly perfect.”
Designer Sanchita Ajjampur feels a fashionista is the one who welcomes refinement and reality with an open mind. She says, “I am inspired by the ‘modern nomad’. Starting from Alexander McQueen, Dries Van Noten, Calvin Klien, Anna sui, Burberry Prorsum, Emporio Armani, Fendi, no one would deny that mother nature knows how to take one into a muse magic. The living world is filled with striped and mottled patterns of contrasting colours; with sculptural equivalents of those patterns realised as surface crests and troughs; with patterns of organisation and behavior even among individual organisms.”
For designer duo Parvesh and Jai, a fashionable person is someone who carries his\her style well. The duo says, “For us fashion is just not limited to the rich, the tribal and gypsies are much more fashionable. Just wearing an expensive brand is not at all fashionable, anyone can do that. Rajasthani and Kutch tribal ladies are our muse, they are really special and create there own fashion. Having no educational background they have their fashion aesthetics right on place. They dress up so amazing and carry it so well that it can flatter anyone.”
