‘Motherhood has completed me’

After working for just five years in the Indian film industry, Tara Sharma decided to start a family and take a break from the archlights. The actress is now back to face the camera, just that this time it’s on the small screen. Tara is hosting a show called The Tara Sharma Show that talks about her and the motherhood experiences of her guests.
“I think motherhood has completed me as a person. I am still the same person I was but now I can offer more and take bigger responsibilities. I am better at time management and am constantly learning from my kids and from others,” says Tara, who is mother of two children.
“Soon after our baby boy Zen was born, I realised that I wanted to get back to work, but I was enjoying being a hands-on-mum so much that I didn’t want to leave him for long periods of time and go for outdoor shoots,” she says.
And it was this experience of being a mother that inspired her to accept the new show. “I always wanted to do a TV show and, when it finally dawned on me, I knew it had to be about my adventures as a mum. The show is informal and often humorous, the demonstrations and recounts of real life experiences add a personal touch to it,” she adds. In the show, Tara will be seen chatting with various celebrity mums such as Konkona Sen Sharma, Farah Khan, Zayed and Malaika Khan, Suchitra Pillai, Parizad Kolah and Nandita Das among others, about their experiences as new parents and their own childhood.
Tara, who made her Bollywood debut with Om Jai Jagdish, went on to be a part of films like Masti, Page 3 and Khosla Ka Ghosla, among others and the mother of two is still open to films, provided she gets a good role.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
