Mixed views on PC’s notes

You hate it or like it, but you certainly can’t ignore Priyanka Chopra’s singing talent. Her debut as a singer with an album featuring rap artiste and Black Eyed Peas singer Will.I.Am, was probably one of the most awaited in India. And now that the actress has uploaded the first song and album cover on the Internet, the cyber space is abuzz with talk about In My City.
Going by the response the song is getting, it seems she has already impressed her fans.
Singer Shibani Kashyap is all praise for Priyanka’s song. “Priyanka has worked really hard and it is very apparent from the video. It looks like an album cut for the West and Priyanka has performed very well. She is looking like a true pop diva. I am sure, this album will be a hit abroad,” says Shibani.
She adds that she liked the song though she is not a fan of the beat. “Telling you honestly, it is not my kind of music. The electronic beats work for the youth. But the energy she has given to the song is going to make it work. After proving herself as an actor, she has proved her accomplishment as a singer as well. She looks promising and the song is going to be a big club song,” says Shibani.
Singer and ex-VJ, Anushka Manchanda feels that another great singer is in the making. “I am travelling for my concerts and have not had the chance to hear the song. But I did see the video online and feel it looks good. I can’t comment on Priyanka’s talent but I can say the album looks impressive,” says Anushka.
Whereas, singer and member of indipop band, A Band of Boys, Karan Oberoi doesn’t agree with Shibani’s views. To him, the teaser looks unimpressive. “I saw the video but it did not look nice at all. If that is the video that someone like Priyanka is debuting with, then it is disappointing. It looks like sheer cut and paste job,” says Karan.
Giving his opinion on the song, Karan feels Priyanka can do much better. “I have seen her perform in the talent round of Miss India contest, and she was really impressive. Few of her notes were here and there but she put up a great performance. But this time, the whole thing is not really that impactful. Though I agree that Priyanka did sing well and does not sound like an Indian singing in English. But I feel the mixing is not good. If you listen to any other international singer like Shakira or J.Lo, their voice cuts through the music. But here Priyanka’s voice is drowning. I am sure she is going to improve on this. She is a terrific performer who has decent vocals. She has the talent and I feel she is going to hold on and improve,” he says.
“You can say the initial pull would be because she is Priyanka Chopra, but it will be too early to say if the album will be a hit or not. Let’s wait and watch,” says Shibani.
