Mila’s a sweet witch
When she was first approached for the role, Kunis admits she found the prospect of playing Theodora in Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful a little intimidating. But those fears were soon put to rest when she met director Sam Raimi.
“We broke down the character and the script and Sam grounded everything in reality, which was incredibly comforting to me,” says the talented actress adding, “I’ve never done anything remotely close to this. You’ve got to challenge yourself constantly.”
Kunis describes her character as “a very sweet and naive young witch.” She is the younger sister of witch Evanora, who acts as her protector and rules the Emerald City with an iron fist.
She thinks every girl will identify with Theodora. “Yes, it’s a little crazy because it takes place in the Land of Oz, but it’s about a girl who’s so sweet and so desperately wants to believe in good and the betterment of the world, that she only sees the good. She is in complete denial of the bad, ” she said.
Kunis enjoyed the experience of working with the talented cast of the film, especially since she has worked with James Franco (Oscar Diggs) before. “James and I have known each other for a while, so it’s like two kids running around. He’s one of my really good friends.”
About her best moments on the sets she says, “I can break it down from the character that I get to play to the people that I get to work with, to being a part of such a beautiful movie and working with such talented people. At one point James and I were on a carriage ride and saw the entire crew standing on one side and realised that we will never see all these people in the same room ever again because it’s the best of the best from every department,” enthuses Kunis.
When audiences see Oz The Great and Powerful, Kunis says, “I hope they smile. I hope they enjoy themselves thoroughly. I hope people love it.”
