The Midas touch
The shimmery and glamorous gold is back in vogue. Not just in clothes, but accessories like gold streaked watches, bags and footwear are the ‘in’ thing now. When actor Freida Pinto walked the red carpet at a recent fashion event in Paris donning a golden gown, she made headlines across the globe. Along with the Indian beauty, French model Inès de la Fressange was seen sporting a golden cowl neck halter, while actor Jane Fonda wore a gold jacket to the same event. Back home, actor Genelia D’Souza’s sparkling gold sandals at a party was the talk of town.
So this season, fashionistas are digging out their golden garments and accessories. “It just adds to the festive spirit. Gold is a rich and royal colour. Either a gold dress or any accessory, if combined well, looks amazing,” says designer Gaurav Jai Gupta.
The shimmer is not only dominating wardrobes, but watches and bags have also been exclusively designed for the ‘gold’ season. Versace, Michael Kors, home-bred Tarun Tahiliani and other big names have unveiled their exclusive gold designs. “It is an eternal colour and is definitely dominating this season. It makes a person feel good. The metallic, shiny and classy look is evergreen. Either dresses or accessories, anything in gold is a must-have,” says designer Sanchita Ajjampur, who was recently spotted at an event flaunting a nude-gold colour dress with a gold vintage bag and sandals.
Even men are willing to try this style mantra, “A gold Rolex with a white shirt and formal trousers looks classy,” says swimmer Rehan Poncha.
Actor Chetan adds, “A subtle combination can make the look very trendy. I have been wearing a gold earring for 12 years, and this is the only accessory I flaunt.”
Designers too agree that the trick is to keep it subtle, “A dash of gold definitely works. It cannot go over the top. Combining gold with mustard or ivory goes down really well with the Indian skin tone,” says designer Divya
Gambhir.
