Metro mayhem begins with rains
After waiting long for the monsoons to begin, now that the rains are here, there’s more trouble for delhiites, not only on the roads, but on the Metro routes too. Delhiites, who are left stranded at the Metro stations, harassed by delays and over crowded stations, share how the Metro has turned out to be the most unreliable means of commuting in the worst of times.
“A few days back, when I boarded the Metro from Central Secretariat to Rajiv Chowk, there was so much crowd, that I could not exit the Metro and missed my station. It’s always like this at Rajiv Chowk, and when it rains, because of the crowd, it gets worse. I was breathless and started yelling at people that I have to get down at the next station,” shares Meeta Mehta, a MBA student, who says she will not use the Metro again.
Many delhiites complain that while it’s hard for them to reach the Metro stations when it’s raining, boarding it is even harder. “I boarded the Metro from Patel Nagar a few days back. When the train stopped in between the stations, the lights went out for a few seconds, and many people felt uneasy as the train was overcrowded and it got really suffocating. We can’t afford to have instances like these, as they can be uncomfortable. I was so irritated with the delays in the journey that I decided to take an auto from Moti Nagar station,” says Sneha, a media professional. Many girls complain about men misbehaving if asked to vacate seats meant for women. “I was in the Metro a few days back. It was raining heavily that day, and the Metro was too overcrowded. Some men kept hitting against me. When I asked this guy to vacate a seat for me, he refused,” shares Vandana Kharbanda, a housewife.
