Men go the earthy way

How about some browns, bright ocean blue, sunny orange and other earthy shades? Most women think it’s hot — these are the latest hues predicted to be the colours that’ll work best for men this year.
The latest from Pantone Fashion Colour suggests that men will be spotted with bright shades, but not without them sticking to their favourite basics like grass green, browns and blues.
“I’ve noticed a lot of men experimenting with colours now. My husband has worn shades of pink, orange and purple. A lot of men dress in orange and yellow, and they still look very masculine,” says designer Tahera Peeran.
The trick is to team the warm and cool colours intelligently. “Blue is the most experimental colour, men can try and team it up with many other shades. When loud colours are used, it needs to be worn with lighter shades,” she adds.
Most women still feel that Indian men shy away from experimenting with colours. “I personally love colours. It’s sad that most Indian men don’t. You’d always spot them in black, white and blue. But slowly this trend has been changing. Most designers are experimenting with brighter shades now. I’d love to see men dressed in bright blues and orange,” says model Renita Susan.

Even actors in Sandalwood are slowly drifting towards newer trends. Says actor Tarun Chandra, who strives to keep up with the latest trends, “I love colours. I know the latest fad for 2012 is all about the vivid and bold colours. My personal favourite is red. But my liking for colour also changes with the season. You’ll most often find me wearing blue, yellow and red. A lot depends on my mood. Sometimes I wear brighter shades to perk up my mood.”
With fashion trends changing ever so often, what has remained constant is the vintage khaki for men. Celebrities have been spotted at all casual outings this year, wearing a khaki pant or the casual and sexy khaki shorts! The khakis are back this spring 2012. “I think khakis can never go out of style. Men in India are emotionally connected to khakis, they will never outgrow them,” says Renita. Seconds Tahera, “Men feel very safe and comfortable in khakis. They can dress it up or dress it down, as they please. It’s a versatile shade like green. Green is back in vogue.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
