Make vroom for mean machines
Those who love the thrill of speed and lean, mean machines are all geared up as new launches are all set to dazzle this year’s Auto Expo 2012, from January 5 till January 11 at Pragati Maidan. This edition of Auto Expo will witness the launch of about 50 vehicles and around 1,500 participations from 24 countries.
Making it a truly “India’s global Automotive” show, exhibitors from the auto component industry have a strong presence at the Auto Expo 2012. Some of the major component manufacturers from Belarus, Canada, People’s Republic of China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey and UAE are participating in the 11th Auto Expo.
This year there will be around 50 new launches including cars, trucks, bus and two wheelers. There is also a special focus on green technology and environment. Around 60 new cars will be launched including BMW Mini (smallest car of BMW in India priced at `20 lakh), all new Maruti 800 (Maruti’s answer to Tata Nano), Audi Q3 (smallest SUV of Audi). Maruti is also expected to showcase a compact SUV, Swift Sports, and a hybrid version of the hatchback Swift. The biggest buzz, however, is about Bajaj Auto’s entry-level passenger carrier, RE60. Mahindra and Mahindra is said to be coming up with its new Reva electric car at the Auto Expo.
“With the current lull in the market, the Auto Expo aims to generate excitement and fulfill the aspirations of the Indian consumers with the theme of ‘Mobility for All’. It will focus on India as a champion of Green Mobility, with an emphasis on alternative fuels including electric and hybrid mobility etc, which is a national as well as a global imperative today. The event will also see first-time participation from Ferrari and Peugeot. In the two-wheeler segment, Mahindra will launch its new Duro DZ scooter model and unveil its MGP30 racing motorcycle,” highlights Rajive Kaul, chairman, steering committee, Auto Expo 2012.
Young automobile enthusiasts are very excited and looking forward to some new companies’ participation.
“Despite a slowdown in their sales, the participation is huge. I’m really excited and looking forward to the expo. I love cars and want to buy a Mini Cooper. Nowadays every car company is launching not only hybrid cars but also usual fuel-oriented cars and I’m really looking forward to them. I’m also excited to see what Toyota and Honda have to offer this Auto Expo,” says Anant Gupta, owner of a production house.
Some are also expecting a grand bike show. Apar, a car freak says, “At this year’s Auto Expo, I’m more keen to check out new bikes as there are many new cars being launched all through the year. Moreover, my interest is more inclined towards sports bikes. I feel Ducati should launch its cheap sports bikes.”
