For the love of animals
Dr Sunil Kumar’s love for animals knows no boundaries. He quit his job from the animal husbandry department to start a hospital for ailing strays and animals that need help. The Felican Pet Hospital in Kerala renders love, care and nurturing for animals.
“The aim of animal husbandry is purely to improve meat, egg and milk. Nothing is being done for pets or strays. I wanted to do something for needy animals. I took a loan and started this hospital. I re-home strays sometimes. But it is always not feasible due to lack of space and funds,” says Dr Kumar, who has received training from Smithsonian Institute in Wild Life Management, USA.
As he claims, there is a young generation that respects and loves animals. “People love dogs but re-homing and taking good care of them is a cause of concern to most of them. Nobody does anything for stray dogs also. I get donations once in a while. Dogs can be cured of any ailments after good vaccinations and treatments are given,” adds the ardent animal lover.
But Dr Kumar sees hope in youngsters and says, “People love dogs but re-homing and taking good care of them is a cause of concern to most of them.”
