Logo champ lauded by Prez

Being felicitated by the first citizen of the country left 9th grader Robin Singh overwhelmed. His logo was chosen to represent Roshni Prachodaya Society, a Rashrapati Bhawan initiative in association with India@75, which aims to make President’s Estate an eco-friendly urban habitat and become a model for other urban habitats in India to follow.

“The teacher called the four students in art and told us about the goals of Roshni in detail. The objective helped me conceptualise my logo,” said Robin, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya Border Security Force School, Bandipore, Kashmir.
The logo was the best among the three he created for the cause. “The winning logo consisted of a hut and a tree. I saw my younger sister drawing a house and a tree and that’s when the idea hit me. A hut in place of a pucca house and a tree along with it, depicted ecological balance,” he explains.
Robin’s logo was chosen from over 3,000 entries from 10,480 schools received across India. He and no one around him ever expected a boy from the Valley to reach Raisina. “I never thought that I would make up to this level when I started making this logo. Not many students from small towns get opportunities to prove things in life but as they say, nothing can stop you if you’ve got talent,” he says.
A student who once aspired to be a police officer and pursued art only as a hobby, is now determined to hone his artistic skills in earnest. “I don’t want to leave art. I will continue to draw and use art as a medium to express my views, and maybe bring about change,” says the boy, who first plans to party with friends to celebrate his meeting with President Pratibha Patil.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
