Lara-Bhupathi move from love to set, match
Bollywood actress Lara Dutta and tennis champ Mahesh Bhupathi are all set to tie the knot in what is one of the most anticipated celebrity weddings of the year. As D-Day approaches, we let you in on the details of the “closed-doors” event as a li’l birdie in the family talks to us about the nuptials to be held on February 19 in Goa.
A source from the bride’s family, based in Bengaluru, tells us, “It’s going to be a very private affair. We’ve sent out invites with two inserts — for the sangeet and the wedding — only to family. So, there will be just about 50 people at the sangeet on Feb 18. To all other friends, we’ve just sent an invite for the wedding the next day. But that will also be a simple do, with not too many industry people.”
While the sangeet will be in traditional Indian style, it’s going to be a Christian wedding at the Taj Fort Aguada. “Lara’s wearing this beautiful gown from Berlin. It’s a fish cut, mermaid dress in ivory with lots of lace and it has a lovely old world charm,” she says, adding, “Mahesh will be wearing a suit. It’s going to be an outdoor wedding on the lawns of the hotel overlooking the sea, and my daughter is one of the bridesmaids. We also have two nieces who are going to be flower girls.” According to her, it will be a big family reunion, as relatives are flying in from all over the world for the big day.
A reception will be held the same evening at the Taj Holiday Village. Unfortunately, the bride and groom won’t be flying off on a honeymoon any time soon. “They’re both very busy. In fact even at the moment Mahesh is in Rotterdam. After the wedding, Lara will be shooting for Chalo Dilli and she also has some work left on Don 2,” says our source.
Though she won’t reveal more about the wedding, she’s happy to tell us about the groom: “Mahesh is a very nice guy. He’s very simple and I think, a bit of an introvert. His whole family is very warm and down-to-earth. I’m very happy to welcome him into the family!”
