Is the knight of Indian cricket?
Amidst the appalling chaos, when the country let out a grunt of repulsion in unison at the debacle that recent English Test series turned out to be, there flickered a ray of hope, an ounce of joy when our Mr Dependable proving yet again to be the bedrock of the team scored his six magnificent centuries on the English ground. When our Indian batsmen caved under pressure and the English bowlers continued to befuddle them, Rahul Dravid was the last man standing.
Very few batsmen have the vigour to stand out in hostile condition and perform under pressure. “While all the his other teammates were reduced to mugs, Dravid stood out like a giant in the midst of ruins. The Wall is known for retaining his calm and composure in times of trial and has always been an extremely bankable player. No wonder he is still a hot favourite of in spite of being the game for so many years. Hats off our Mr Dependable,” says sports instructor Ratan Sahu.
“Dravid has been my favourite player forever. The other players should take cues from him on being consistent. It is one thing to make big score — think Sachin and Dhoni, when everything is favourable, but a totally different ball game when you have to stand firm when everybody else around you is losing their head,” opines 17-year-old district level cricketer, Chris Bezalel.
But post such an outstanding feat; Dravid announced his retirement plans. “Given the pathetic shape the boys are in. I don’t think it’s a wise idea to let — Dravid go just as yet. But from his perspective I guess it’s a wise call — as by walking out in dignity he has showed that he is not willing to be kicked around anymore in spite of all his year invested in the team,” says cricket fanatic Siddarth Ravi. Well, on his way out and the at the end of splendid cricketing career, Rahul Dravid has carved a place for himself in the history of not just Indian cricket but on an international level too.
