Kitu’s kitty has exciting roles
There was a time when she was the queen of Indian television with shows like Swaabhimaan, Junoon, Kaashish and Kulvadhu in her kitty and then she was seen in films like Dhobi Ghat, Fashion and now she will play an important character in her upcoming film Ek Bura Aadmi. Despite the diverse medium she has been a part of, model turned actress Kitu Gidwani feels theatre is still her first love.
“I won’t say that films and television do not work for you, but somewhere theatre helps you grow as an actor. It gives you a chance to emote, which is what I value as an actor,” says Kitu, who started her career with French plays and subsequently did English plays followed by TV and films.
Talking about her selective work, Kitu says it’s a personal choice not to take up too many projects. “Originally, what you get determines the quantity of your work, I mostly chose what was offered to me. Talking about the quality, since I didn’t like run of the mill stuff, they were never a part of my body of work,” she explains.
Kitu accepted the role in Ek Bura Aadmi because she got to portray glamour in a new way. “It’s the glamour of power that I am portraying in the film. It’s unlike any other character I have done earlier,” says Kitu, who is also taking training in Milonga dance form. “I am absolutely into dance. I saw this dance form abroad and fell in love with it. I have been training for a while now,” she adds.
The actress was a pioneer of sorts. She is still remembered for her kiss with Raj Zutshi in Junoon and Aamir Khan in film Holi. “I was just doing a job. It did well and I have moved on from there,” ends Kitu.
