Incidents in the film are very true to life: Sabrina

A filmmaker’s most nervous day generally is the Friday his film sees the light of the day, but the makers of No One Killed Jessica had butterflies in their stomach when they hosted a private screening for Sabrina Lal, the sister of Jessica around whose murder the plot revolves. And the starcast of the film was out in full force at DT Star

Cinemas to share the experience with Sabrina. Post screening, lead actors Rani Mukherjee, and Vidya Balan got candid with us about the film and their jitters when Sabrina and her close-ones arrived for the screening.
Termed by the film’s director as the inspiration and guiding light behind the project, Sabrina looked seemingly satisfied with the outcome, and said, “It’s met expectations — a complete 100 per cent. I had many people tell me that though I’d read the script, I should also have seen the film much earlier because, in their opinion, Bollywood filmmakers add masala or change the script. But now I can safely and happily say that the film is the same as the script that I had been given and that is very heartening for my family. It’s completely true to life.”
Summarising her role (she plays Sabrina in the film) Vidya Balan, said, “It was a daunting role (to play). We all know what challenges Sabrina had to go through; it was beyond me.”
Talking about what interested her the most about the film, Rani averred, “I felt that the (Jessica’s) story should be told to people. It is an important incident that will remain close to our heart for very long.” And a subject so close to her heart, Sabrina added that it did evoke tearful memories of the past.
“The first half was really hard-hitting and some moments did bring tears to my eyes. By the second half you get used to the instances and have it figured out.” And summed it up, saying, “Incidents in it are very true to life.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
