‘I will not quit TV’
Pariva Pranati, a known name on television, recently got her big break in Bollywood with the Aamir Khan-starrer, Talaash. She plays Soniya Kapoor, wife of superstar Armaan, played by Vivan Bhathena. Though Pariva is looking to star in more films this year she does not plan to leave television.
Growing up years
My father was in the Air Force. He was extremely protective and disciplined like most armymen are, but I managed to have my share of fun. I spent my childhood travelling all over India. It was exciting making new friends every two or three years.
My favourite things
I enjoy cooking, painting and listening to music. But I am a bad singer.
Starting out
During college I felt acting was best for me since I would get to play many different characters. Luckily, my dad was posted in Mumbai during that period. My cousin was working with a media company and I would attend shoots with her, which helped me finalise my decision of being an actor. I got my portfolio shot and within a month I was shooting for my debut television show, Bhabhi. Bhabhi was a learning experience for me as I knew nothing about facing the camera. Luckily my co-stars were very patient with me.
Disappointments
My last show, Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum, went off air sooner than expected. It was upsetting as I had put in a lot of effort to play a loud Gujarati woman. But somewhere down the line we realised the crux of the show was getting lost.
Bollywood calling
I was shooting for my show, Aarakshan when I got a call from the makers of Talaash. Till I started shooting, I had no idea it had stars like Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherji and Kareena Kapoor. Every actor dreams of working with Aamir Khan and it was a learning experience, seeing how humble he is despite being a star.
Future plans
Though I am trying to work in more films I do not intend to leave television. I might take up a daily soap but it depends on the role that I am offered. For now, I am on a break, I am travelling and spending time with the family.
