‘I’ve become the face of change’
Call her the girl with the Midas touch! Two super hits and a National Award later, Vidya Balan is making news by dancing to the lavani tune in Ferrari Ki Sawari. Talking about her “special song”, she said, “The idea came from Vidhu Vinod Chopra and of course I was game for it. The song is my humble tribute to the city where I am working. And trust me, performing the lavani dance is no easy task. While the body language is sensuous, the facial expression needs to be soft. Rigorous training under experts finally helped me pick up the finer nuances of the dance form.”
Riding high on critical and commercial acclaim thanks to The Dirty Picture and Kahaani, the actor has been credited for changing the dynamics of the trade for Bollywood’s female brigade. Vidya flashed a smile, before responding to the comment, “We are going through an interesting phase of transformation and it is reflecting on the film industry as well. If I have become the face of that change, then I’d say I am enjoying its benefits.”

Vidya is simply magical
Choreographer Stanley D’costa, who trained Vidya Balan for the song Mala Jau De says the actress worked really hard for the song. “She used to come for rehearsals after 11pm as she was promoting Kahaani at that time. She would rehearse for three hours. She didn’t know much about lavani but she learnt it quickly! She completed the whole song in six days, ahead of the timeline. In fact on the last day of the rehearsal she was really tired but when I requested her for five more hours, she gave the time and we completed the shoot. She is simply ‘magical’,” he says.
