‘I’m a wrong guy for Aiyya’
He is one of the biggest stars in Southern film industry and his work is highly appreciated among his fans and critics. However, when actor Prithviraj Sukumaran turned to Bollywood with his film Aiyya, his followers are looking forward to some great performance in his debut Hindi film. And, he is geared up to take the challenge and promises not to disappoint.
After his stint in the Hindi film industry, many are assuming that this hunky actor will leave the South Indian film industry, and focus more on Bollywood films. But Prithviraj, who recently visited the capital, says that he never said he wants to focus more on Bollywood. “Yes I want to be a part of Bollywood because it’s a right time to be in the industry. New kind of cinema being made, experiments being done, this is a great phase for the Hindi film industry. But it’s not that I would want to shift my focus to the Bollywood entirely or will stop doing films in the South. I would rather want to be a part of good cinema. I’m in that phase of my career where I can choose the kind of work I want to do,” he said.
The actor confesses to be a big fan of actor Rani Mukerji, now his co-actor. He quickly clarifies that it’s not because he is doing his first Hindi film with her but because he admires her for her work and the kind of challenges she has taken up. He says, “I have always been a big fan of Rani Mukerji since the beginning of my career. Even if you dig out my old interviews, even that was given 10 years ago, you’ll find that I’ve said that someday I would like to do a film with Rani. Now that I have done Aiyya, I really feel privileged.”
Though he is elated to be a part of Aiyya, which is an out and out Bollywood romantic film, the actor says it’s not this what he is known for down south.
He said this when Rani mentioned that she was highly surprised to see Prithvi confidently pull off the dance sequences. “I’m sure most of you don’t know about my work down south. Mistakenly, I’m a wrong choice for a movie like Aiyya. I do more of dark roles. Vaibhavi and Rani had their doubts on making me dance. They were not too sure if I would be able to pull it off. It was difficult even for me to match to the level of Rani Mukerji who is a trained dancer, but later, Vaibhavi told me that it’s not about the steps rather having fun. That made my work really easier,” he said.
