‘I just can’t afford to be ordinary’
She is set to carry forward the musical legacy of her renowned parents. Starry-eyed daughter of singers Roopkumar and Sunali Rathod, Reewa Rathod is set to take on the world. “I work harder because I always tell myself I just can’t afford to be ordinary,” she says.
The vocalist, pianist and music composer, who has been pursuing her passion since the age of four and made her debut in the music industry on her 20th birthday recently is working on an independent album and a music tour.
“I know there are many lovers of Indian music globally and I want to reach them through my music,” she says. The singer gives credit to her parents and teachers for shaping her as a musician.
No surprise that the family’s conversations revolve around music, Reewa says she spends most of her time composing and writing music. Talking about her genre, she says, “My personal style is ‘soul’ music. I’ve been writing poems and creating my own compositions in English, Hindi and sometimes Tamil since a very young age. I want to create my own sound. Being born in a musical family has had its positives, but I feel that unless you put in your hard work, you can’t survive just on a base built by your parents.”
Reewa, who has accomplished eight grades in piano with distinction from the Royal Associated Board of London, adds that she would definitely love to be a part of Bollywood, though it is not the focus as of now.
