‘I find women intriguing’
At the age of 45, he’s the winner of four National awards. Although his last ambitious film based on the film industry tanked at the box office, it didn’t make the director swerve from the path of good cinema. Madhur Bhadarkar took out time to talk about films, his love for food and the capital, on a recent trip to the capital for the launch of the new outlet of Khandani Rajdhani restaurant here.
“I do not take failures too seriously because I have seen struggle throughout my life. My first film, Trishakti was made in three years and sank without a trace. It was only with Chandni Bar that my career took an upswing. Failures and success are all part and parcel of life. Every film teaches me something or other,” says Bhandarkar on being asked how failures affect him personally vis-a-vis Heroine.
Talking about his upcoming project, Madhur reveals, “I love observing life and am deeply fragile. That’s why my brand of cinema has often been termed as ‘realistic’. Currently, I am working on a script of romantic film, which will be a slice-of-life and something most people will relate to.”
On being asked about the important role played by women in most of his films, he smiles and says, “In my life, I have always been personally influenced by women and feel they are strong and emotional at the same time. I find them intriguing and love to keep them in important roles.”
Not many would know but Madhur is a big foodie and enjoys having chaat, rajma chawal and Karim’s biryani in the capital. “I love eating spicy and masaledaar khana. So naturally, whenever I get a chance to come to the capital, I hog on various delicacies. In fact, I end up piling on a few extra kilos while I am here and have to work-out extra when I am back,” adds Madhur, while devouring bajra roti, gatta subzi and aamras at the restaurant.
