Hooked on spooky thrills & chills
She swears she is totally smitten by the horror genre in Bollywood, and now when she is making her debut in acting with one such film, actress Aparnaa Bajpai says nothing could have been better than this.
“I had always been a horror film buff since childhood. I remember watching each and every horror film on TV. And now that I am making my debut with a horror film, I am really excited and looking forward to my own launch. I have already started telling my friends that they must go and watch my film even if they can’t sit through horror movies,” says Aparnaa, who is stepping in Bollywood with Vikram Bhatt’s Horror Story, in which she is essaying the character of Maggie, one of the seven friends who come across paranormal occurrences at an abandoned hotel famous for being haunted.
The young actress has already proved her acting prowess with noted director Sasikumar’s Easan and Karuppampatti in Tollywood after doing various commercials, including one with Aamir Khan. “As a young child I would always drape a sari and dance to Sridevi’s songs, but never in my dreams did I think that I would become an actress. I took up modelling and ads when I was in college because of my friends, who’d keep pushing me to go for auditions. Otherwise I would have been doing something else today — probably fashion designing. However, after that commercial, I got noticed and films happened,” shares Aparnaa.
That proved to be the beginning of an unplanned journey for her. “I never planned anything. I did not take up any projects in South after those two films. Even Bollywood wasn’t planned. I got selected by chance though I was very unwell when I went for the auditions,” says Aparnaa, and adds that she is not hesitant to debut with a horror film. “I agree that horror is not accepted much and there is just a set number of audience for the same, but my personal inclination towards the genre motivated me to take up the project,” she says.
Talking about her love for paranormal, Aparnaa shares some spooky incidents she faced while filming the Horror Story. “After shooting this film, I have started questioning things, as there were certain incidents on the set that made me change my perception. When we reached the shooting location, someone told us that the place is actually haunted and people keep getting hurt here. I did not believe it but then witnessed a slew of accidents. My tea fell on me and I was hospitalised for 15 days. One day Karan, Nishant and I felt something on the abandoned 7th floor of the building. And finally Maya in her ghost get-up was really unnerving. Yes, I did get scared,” says Aparnaa.
However, now that her film is nearing release, Aparnaa hopes that all good things will follow. “I would like to do a proper Bollywood masala film after this. South will have to wait till I become one of the known names in North. Let’s see where life takes me,” she ends.
