Hirani chooses Aamir over Munnabhai

Raju Hirani is undoubtedly the most sought after person in Bollywood today, with three monster hits out of three. But with great power comes great speculations, and the question of which project would Hirani take up next have been doing the rounds for a while now. It was widely thought that it would be the next instalment of the Munnabhai franchise, but it could take longer than imagined, as first on Hirani’s mind is to continue his hit association with Aamir Khan.
“After 3 Idiots, a lot of people thought that Raju would announce a sequel to the Munnabhai series. But Raju wanted to move to greener pastures, and given the success 3 Idiots garnered, it was inevitable,” says our source.
The other roadblock was Aamir himself. After Delhi Belly, Aamir had publicly stated that he would be focussing only on making films, and wouldn’t sign on any more projects. “After wrapping up Reema Kagti’s Dhuan, Aamir wasn’t really looking for another script. But when Raju approached him, he gave it a serious thought,” our source adds.
Though the project is still in its initial stages, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra has already given his green signal. Raju, it seems, has written the film keeping Aamir specifically in mind. “Yes, Aamir has heard the script and given a verbal commitment,” reveals a source within the Vidhu Vinod Chopra camp.
But at the risk of playing spoilsport, Aamir may have said yes to the film, but things aren’t going to move ahead till Dhuan releases, as Aamir has categorically stated so.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
