Guy gangs hit the holiday trail

Bollywood has been known to influence the younger lot, and the latest trend that has caught on with GenY is guy bonding sans girls. Male bonding, shown in films like ZNMD, Pyar Ka Punchmana, Delhi Belly and in the just released Sahi Dhande Galat Bande, has given a new twist to the famous ‘brotherhood’

that every guy adheres to. A lot of guys in the capital too express their desire to take a breather from their busy lives and just chill out with their ‘bros’ on a holiday trip.
Karan Chauhan, a marketing professional and travel enthusiast, says it is the ‘explorer archetype’ that is getting popular with the new-age young professionals. He says, “It’s the element of thrill and excitement that we get while travelling with friends. The kind of fun you can have with your male friends is difficult with a mixed group. I love to explore mountains and higher altitudes. There are so many places that I have gone to where extreme conditions can cause nausea, mountain sickness and other problems. The fellow traveller has to be really immune to all these conditions and tough. But if you are travelling with girls, you have to be careful about hygiene facilities, living conditions etc, which isn’t a problem while travelling with a group of guys.”
Varun Bansal, an entrepreneur, mentions that a guy trip is often more fun than going with girls. He says, “I recently went to Manali with four of my very good guy friends and we had a great time driving on the roads. We took a driver along so none of us had to worry. We enjoyed the food and drinks and stopped at places we wanted to see. The best part was there were no worries and everyone was chilling out. One annoying habit of girls I have observed is that they stop to pose and click pictures everywhere which thankfully none of my guy friends did on the way.”
Saurabh Sinha, an MBA student, says that even though it is fun to have girlfriends around, there are certain things that guys like to do without them, specially travelling. He says, “I keep travelling with friends, but when it’s a ‘guys only’ trip, there is much more adventure. We usually go without any plans and no one nags about small things. There’s no responsibility and the trips usually turn out to be more eventful and fun.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
