Guess who’s singing Kolaveri Di?
It seems Kolaveri fever is here to stay. Days after the song became a nationwide rage; several versions of the song have been featured on YouTube. Besides a Gujarati, Marathi and a Harvinder Singh–Sharad Pawar version, there is now a Chipmunked version of the song as well.
The Chipmunks are animated characters from Hollywood’s Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. Famous for their unique, shrieky voice, videos of the chipmunks singing popular tracks of international artists like Eminem, Lady Gaga, Rihanna etc are a big hit on the internet.
And now, the Chipmunked version of Kolaveri Di has fans hooked. Nineteen-year-old student Ishaan Sharma is gung ho about this version. “Kolaveri is already a rage. Everyone is listening to it in loop, but the Chipmunk version is hilarious,” he says. “I’m sure it will help the song become more popular.”
Media professional Ayaan Sarkar adds, “I’ve heard a few other versions of the song on YouTube, but this one is amazing!”
Kolaveri is not the only Indian song to be Chipmunked. Popular Bollywood tracks like Sheila ki Jawani, Munni, All izz Well and Pappu Can’t Dance Saala have received the same treatment from Alvin and his furry buddies.
