Green-teresting menu
There are endless ways to support the green cause and doing something for Mother Earth on Environment Day. But have you ever heard of digging into some exotic menus to for a cause? Celebrate the World Environment Day on June 5 by trying out some delicious green menus being offered around the city. These menus have been crafted using ingredients which are healthy. While some have a full-fledged “go green” menu in place, others have an array of exotic vegetarian recipes for you.
At The Imperial hotel, the chefs are preparing a special organic menu for their media guests.
For those who would prefer something more Indian and desi, Rang De Basanti dhaba has crafted a special World Environment Day menu. “We are offering dahi ke kebab in our special menu. Here we use cool dahi and make a traditional kebab with it inside. Usually, kebabs either have a heavy filling inside, or are loaded with meat and pickle. But on this day, we wanted to provide a light alternative, where you bite into something healthy,” says chef Vishal, cuisine trainer, Rang de Basanti Dhaba.
So while you’ve tasted some of these recipes before, on World Environment Day, they will be twisted to celebrate the day. Hinglish — The Colonial Café, without compromising on taste, has come up with a dish called jimmikand aur anjeer ki shammi. “Yam is popular for dishes such as kofta and masala but it’s rare to have a yam (jimmikand) combined shammi. High in vitamins, dietary fibre and proteins, yam is an interesting variant to the typical dishes one gets at home, and retains a great taste. Couple that with figs — which are universally popular. The combination with figs (anjeer) makes this a slightly sweetish kebab, but the green and red chilli enhance the flavorus while reducing the sweetness,” says chef Shibu, Under One Roof Hotel Consultants. They are also offering juices that help you detoxify, made with wheatgrass.
At Turquoise Cottage, they’ve come up with an interesting avatar of the traditional Sui Mai. “Present in varying forms all across China, this Sui Mai brings together Chinese cabbage (Pak choy) and black mushroom. This dish has Vitamin A, a healthy dose of Vitamin C and even compounds that are known to prevent cancer in small doses. Why not enjoy the ‘green day’ by picking something healthy?” quips chef Nawal Prakash, masterchef and cuisine trainer, TC, Adchini.
At Shiro, their Environment day special menu comprises of Indonesian style grilled vegetables on crispy lettuce with peanut dressing, spinach and waterchestnut dumpling, tamarind tofu, tofu kimchi chigae and japanese steam rice among other delicacies.
At Watermelon, they are offering delectable salads such as watermelon greens, rocket salad and minty smoked salmon salad to support the cause.
