Green crusader

When Narendra Singh, 30, conquered the mighty Everest and also cleaned up 500 kg of garbage dumped by other climbers there. The environment crusader also created a record of staying at the peak for an hour without oxygen, for which he entered the Limca Records.

Narendra is continuing doing what he’s good at and for a cause that he firmly believes in. The adventurer is out on another expedition with a purpose. With an aim to create awareness about global warming, he’s reminding everyone to play a role in saving the green cover. And for that this free-sailing bird is out cycling for 60 days and 60 nights and hopes to complete a whooping 12,000 km, and hopes to make it to the Guinness World Records.
Narendra, who started from the base camp at Everest to the southern tip at Kanyakumari in September, has pedalled 6,800 km and reached the city of Taj, Agra recently. He said, “The beauty of the Taj Mahal is such that it makes any wanderer a traveller and any traveller a lover. I plan to take the message to every corner of the nation. We must each play our role as individuals to save our Mother Earth and our rich heritage.”
The Aamby Valley employee, Narendra, who hails from Haryana says that his message is simple. “Lets says no to polythene, plant more trees, save water and recycle more often,” he says.
“Wherever I go, people have been curious about my expedition. I love to answer their questions about the environment and give them simple suggestion. Interestingly, in remote areas like the Northeast and interiors of West Bengal, language was a problem, but then we overcame it with the participation of the locals,” he adds.
Along with the support of his company, Narendra thanks his family for being supportive. “I know the high and satisfaction this adventure has been giving me is entirely mine, but there are so many people behind me to keep me going. My parents and wife and kids have been particularly unquestioning,” he adds.
“It is indeed an adventure of a lifetime that I am to set out on and I feel like Alice who is out to explore the unknown Wonderland. I hope I am able to inspire others to live in a more eco-friendly way,” he adds.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
