Gossip girls to add fun

After a year-long wait, giving viewers their daily dose of entertainment, fifth season of Bigg Boss is here. While viewers anxiously waited for the surprises to unfold, the list of contestants this time is shocking to the fans. Shakti Kapoor is the only male contestant on the reality show.
Even as we all look forward to the cat fights, backstabs, emotional bonds, and just about everything women are known for, will this show turn out to be one of the best seasons, or the absence of men on the show will add to boredom?
“I’m looking forward to the women in the house fighting and arguing over trivial things. I work in a team of 12 girls and it’s crazy how they pick up fights over just about anything. From their talks about their boyfriends to exes, to food and make-up, it’s fun to hear them out at times. Now we’ll get to see that masala on national television,” says Lohit Kumar, who works with an advertising firm.
Sadly for women, there’s no eye candy in the show. Since there was a healthy mix of men and women in previous episodes, some are hopeful there will be surprises in the show in coming episodes. “Be it Aryan Vaid or Ashutosh, boys have always kept us engaged. I was shocked to see 13 women with Shakti Kapoor. He’s certainly not an eye candy. It may be fun for guys, but I don’t think girls will enjoy the show now. There aren’t interesting celebs at all. If we can call these women celebs,” says Radhika, a media professional.
“I saw the first episode and didn’t like it. It will be boring after a while as you can’t watch so many women chatting among each other for three months,” adds Manisha Yadav, who owns a PR firm.
For those who were expecting big names, the first two episodes have been a complete no-show. There’s not even a slight mention of Jonty Rhodes, Mike Tyson or Shakira. Viewers feel the biggest drawback is the list of contestants this time.
“It’s fun to watch women fight and care about each other at the same time. But here they have women who most of us don’t even know about. The season will surely be a lot spicier with backbiting, gossip sessions and fun times, but the bottom line is, who are these women?” quips Puneet Khanuja, a businessman.
Even as the first two days came as a blow to many, some people are still looking forward to a surprise. Writes Harris Alam on Bigg Boss 5 Facebook page, “The concept is different now. Obviously, it was impossible to bring in guys like Jonty as it’s a controversial show and no would ever go in it! BB knows how to make this show a success.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
