Go Gaga over DJ Zedd
Music buffs had the time of their life as they swooned to the tunes of global sensation, Russian-German DJ, Zedd at Kitty Su, The Lalit on Friday night.
The 23-year-old prodigy, who was on his maiden visit here has already worked with the likes of Justin Bieber, Eva Simon, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, P Diddy, The Black Eyed Peas and recently with Lady Gaga on her upcoming album, Artpop.
Speaking about his performance, the DJ-cum-producer shared that he had an unforgettable experience while performing in the city and hoped to get similar response from Mumbai fans where he will be playing tonight.
Zedd performed some of his latest tracks like Spectrum, Clarity, I don’t like you among others. “I have heard so much about the music scene in India and the enthusiasm of the people here. I hope to bring out the energy and passion of the crowd with my tracks,” he says.
Talking about his association with Lady Gaga, Zedd says, “It’s been an honour to be able to collaborate with her since she is one of the biggest artistes in the world. I was already a huge fan of Gaga and for me it was a dream to produce a song for her.
“The pressure to work on her new album Artpop is huge! Having said that, the fact that she is so open-minded musically and creatively has made it easier in some ways. She wants me to produce the craziest songs I can possibly do. We’re doing something completely unique and what we think is new.”
Talking about his inspiration and genre, Zedd says that both his parents are musicians and he was encouraged to play the piano when he was only four years old.
“I started recording songs at the age of six and started playing drums at 12. After a long phase of metal, hardcore, rock, jazz and all sorts of music, I started producing electronic music without any real knowledge of the scene or culture. So the music produced was completely different. I loved making that kind of music and ended up having a unique sound,” he says.
The musician has come all prepared to visit the country of his dreams. “India is culturally beautiful. I have read so much about the country and many call it the next destination for EDM and progressive house,” he says.
And yes, he enjoys Bollywood music too. “Bollywood music has its own charm. The beats and rhythms may not be familiar to me but classical music in India is just beautiful,” he adds.
