Get, set to be trapped
Someone at Toy Box must have approved the content that features behind the game box. It’s a block of rubbishy copy that reads clumsily, and grinds to an abrupt end with a few words mysteriously missing.
Worse still, they position their games for ages 4-11, and specifically as a gift idea. It’s maddening! TRAP retails at Rs 450. It’s a delightful game, good for any age group. And sure, it makes for a great gift, but it will be great if the company encourages people to buy the game and play it!
Get past their disinterest in the written word, and you realise they have a real winner in TRAP. Play unfolds on a 5x5 grid, which has an unusual depth perception because of the five detachable slats. Pop the 25 coloured slugs out and shuffle them into new positions. Cover the colour slugs with the neatly curved cream caps, and you have an all new start point, every time you play.
Removing three caps at a time, you’re grappling with five colours. To win, you need to trap your opponent into uncapping the fifth slug of the same colour. Memorising locations of colours is helpful, but not good enough. Into my third attempt, I finally figured how to set a trap. My canny opponent had set two, and no matter what I uncapped next, defeat was inevitable. Fabulous!
