Get the curves right

If you thought only Kim Kardashian or Bipasha could have a ‘curvelicious’ body, you are in for a curvy twist.
There are a few workouts that can help you get the right curves in the right places.
“The first step towards sculpting the body is to lose the extra flab. If a person is slim, then she will have to put on some weight to get the curves,” says Yasmin Karachiwala, under whom Katrina Kaif is training for her perfect abs.
Workouts
Exercises, which can be done using props like dumbbells and benches, are useful for strengthening and toning abs, back, obliques, lower back and shoulders.
“For instance, the ‘bench step-up’ routine targets thighs, hips, glutes and shoulders, it also shapes the lower body. Another effective workout using a bench is the ‘cross-twist on bench’, where one has to lean backward on the bench, supporting your hands downwards. After settling, punch your right fist across the left thigh and the left fist through the right. Repeat it 10 times. This exercise helps tone obliques, abs and lower back,” says Yasmin.
Apart from this, the ‘narrow stance squats’ and ‘side laterals’ are also considered helpful. “The narrow stance squats firms the outer shoulders and the side laterals again firms the obliques. Also, it is important to check with your fitness trainer on the weights and number of repetitions according to the body type,” explains Yasmin.
Yoga
Celebrity yoga trainer Payal Gidwani believes that if certain yoga asanas are performed regularly, they can help in firming up loose muscles and toning the body.
“The ‘side-bending Chakrasana’ removes fats from the waist and also shapes the arms and obliques. On the other hand, naukasana focuses on abdominal and back muscles,” explains Payal.
Trikonasana and kapalabharati kriya are the other effective yoga exercises which can be used for strengthening both sides of the body. “Kapalabharati kriya not only strengthens abs, but also removes the toxins from the body,” says Payal.
Diet
According to experts, the diet varies from one body type to another when the goal is to attain a ‘curvelicious’ body. “For instance, a slim person will have to put on some mass first to get the curves. On the other hand, an overweight person will have to shed some weight before starting the toning workouts,” explains Yasmin.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
