Gaming deep down
At the recent Sony Japan Conference, we saw gameplay footage of new and old; third and first party games which will be releasing on the PS Vita, PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4 sometime in the future. The most interesting of these titles was Capcom’s Deep Down, which was first announced at the PS4 reveal event back in February.
Deep Down is indeed a dungeon crawler/RPG set in a fantasy world. The environments and monsters are both procedurally generated, meaning no two levels will ever feel the same. The world is dark, gritty and filled with a sense of terror which is generally associated with the Souls franchise. At the conference, it was also confirmed that Deep Down will be an online game. How players interact with each other is as yet unknown, but it’s safe to assume that players will be able to team up and tackle bigger monsters for better rewards, or betray each other in the process. On the surface, it looks like a solid fantasy RPG. But while many of these features are exciting, the game’s futuristic setting is its most noteworthy aspect.
Deep Down is set in New York in the year 2094. Similar to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, players will be able to access memories trapped inside monuments and artifacts. This allows players to re-visit those locations in order to solve the mysteries present in their own time.
Deep Down does not have a release date, but it’s turning out to be one of the more interesting next-generation titles. Capcom also took this opportunity to confirm that Deep Down is, in fact, a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
