Games you do not play
Howard Gardner of multi intelligences fame was in India recently. The Varthur-Whitefield Road in Bengaluru had an impressive number of post dedicated to his dramatically photoshoppped picture in shades of black, with the ends of his long coat curling around his knees.
A quick reading suggested intelligence is comforting at first. It’s all right to be not the top-of-the-class in areas commonly associated with higher order of intelligence! The list helpfully lists abilities, explains them, and then explores best fit career choices. With my limited inter and intra personal abilities, I didn’t make the grade on two of the intelligences, immediately ruling out ten career options!
The last couple of weeks have been packed with the kind of games people play; corporate life brings out the worst in some folks. A little back-stabbing here, some blatant untruths there, nifty passing-the-buck, and belligerent posturing, all paraded with indecent regularity. Maybe this qualifies for some sort of tenth intelligence the learned Gardner glossed over.
There is a lot to be said for logical-mathematical, spatial and linguistic learning. I’m just about half way down that esoteric list, and I know that The Lost Mind Of Dr. Brain (Sierra), should be mandatory daily activity. From way back in 1995. Hilarious commentary. Brilliant challenges in nine fields. Intelligence assured!
