From school uniform to cool trendy outfits in college, the journey from one educational level to another is quite remarkable for any student.

As the mission admission has already kick-started in most city colleges, we give a lowdown on how to stay stylish on campus this year.
First comes the wardrobe, and designer duo Divya and Nidhi Gambhir of Walnut recommend natural and eco-friendly clothes for youngsters. They say, “Pick up colourful cotton shorts, pair them with ganjis or loose white shirts. Girls should team it with colourful flip-flops, a back-pack and watch to complete the look. Since colour blocking is hot this season, go for bold colours and keep the accessories sleek. Try to keep your clothes fuss-free and go with the basics for a chic and classy look,”
Stylist and image consultant Vikram Seth feels that since students usually have a tight budget, they can shop from street markets like Kamla Nagar, Janpath and Sarojini Nagar to rev up their wardrobe. He says, “College is all about having fun, and students can try out vibrant hues to show their vivacious spirit. One can invest in bright coloured tops or tunics and pair them with jeggings or skinny jeans. Since it’s very hot these days, try to wear linen or cotton fabrics keeping the silhouette voluminous. Go for pleasant colours like aqua, orange, yellow, pink tops, skirts and maxi dresses, and pair them with comfortable ballerinas or flip-flops because as a student you need to walk a lot.”
For accessory and bag designer Tarini Nirula oversized bags are really cool as they are stylish and also very useful for stuffing college material. She says, “On campus you a balance of being comfortable and trendy, so pick up utility accessories in cool shades and styles. Get a bright colourful oversized tote or carry a sleek sling bag with loads of space. Even an arty jhola can look nice if you carry it with the right attitude. For boys, short colourful tees with quirky messages; canvas shoes and comfortable jeans is good enough. They can also invest in aviators or wayfarers, as they never go out of style.”
Apart from a stylish wardrobe, another thing that collegegoers should pay attention to is glowing skin. Beauty expert and make-up artist Shikha Taneja says staying hydrated on campus is a must. She says, “Keep drinking loads of water and fluids to stay hydrated in summer. Girls should stick to light make-up on campus. Keep a sunscreen, tinted moisturiser and lip balm to touch up when required. Use gel liner and waterproof kohl so that it doesn’t smudge. Pop coloured lip-gloss with less pigments and a nice blusher will do the trick.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
