Freedom from passwords can be a reality soon
What if computer passwords become history? Possible, yes, a news report suggests that computer experts are looking for ways through which people can start working right away by just typing their user name, sans password.
Even though this is currently being developed for military use, but if this revolutionary software comes to India, how feasible would it prove to be?
Cyber law expert Pavan Duggal agrees and says, “If this software is developed, it will give tremendous boost to mobile commerce and e-commerce in our country. Mobile commerce is a goldmine India is sitting on, which unfortunately is non-password savvy. Majority of people in our country have same username and password. And most Indians don’t use alpha numeric passwords. Names of people and their pets are common passwords. If this technology comes, it will make commercial activities on the Internet much safer. But surely, this has to be tested for proper authentication and identification first.”
Many in the capital agree that such a technology is the need of the hour and will help protect important data. Marketing professional Ritta Joshi shares her experience. “In our office, we all have separate login id and password. I was on official leave and when I resumed work, I found out that my password had been compromised and important files on my computer had been deleted. I don’t know if companies can make use of such software, but if yes, then I am for it.”
Rishi Pant, professional, says, “Such incidents are common at workplace and passwords can be easily compromised. The concept of just typing in one’s user name appeals to me. After all, passwords today are easily hacked and this will prevent such mishaps.”
