Foxx in the White House
From playing a slave in Django Unchained to portraying the role of the President of the US in his upcoming film White House Down, it’s been quite a cinematic journey for Jamie Foxx of late. Jamie calls the transition “the evolution of freedom”, explaining that’s what it means, “to go from playing a slave to a President, in one year.”
“You know, I didn’t take too long!” he says, of the shift between roles. “It was great to have the chains off and then get my suit on, because when you’re playing a slave it can wear on you a little bit. Transitioning into this, with another fantastic cast, it’s just been a wonderful ride.”
For his role in White House Down, Jamie had a little bit of real life inspiration to draw on — a recent meeting with President Barack Obama. Of the meeting, Jamie says, “He (Obama) was presidential, but he also had this air where you could walk up to him. He didn’t have the air where you have to say ‘Mr President’…”
In The Amazing Spider Man 2, Jamie plays the villain, and says his daughter is trying to come to terms with the fact her father will be “beaten up” by her favourite superhero in his next film. “She asked me, ‘Daddy, is Spider Man going to beat you up?’ And I said, ‘Yes’, and she said, ‘Good’,” Jamie says.
