Films meet sports in fest arena
In a country obsessed with sports and films, surprisingly we don’t get to see the two coming together for entertainment. Interestingly, it’s probably the first time in the capital that movie buffs will be treated to a bouquet of sports films and documentaries at the Tiger Paw Sports Film Festival, from August 27-29 at the Alliance Francaise.
The three-day sports festival is being organised by Numinous Films and Karrtoos Sports Management in association with the All Sports LA Film Festival.
Sundeep Misra, director of the festival, says, “It’s a first-of-its-kind film festival dedicated to sports films and documentaries. We will have three main categories this year — short films and documentaries, feature films and a TV news channel entry (where a good report, interview or documentary on sports could be featured). So far from India we received four entries and 80-85 international participations from various filmmakers.”
The sports film festival aims to bring an opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their films on various aspects of different sporting disciplines. Speaking about the highlights of this festival, the director mentions, “We will have three special screenings at this festival and sports fans will get to see movies like Senna (based on life and death of Brazilian motor-racing champion), When We Were Kings (based on life of boxing champs) and Batmen (based on Irish cricket team). Apart from this, there will be various discussions and documentary screenings throughout the festival for sports and movie enthusiasts.”
