From fat to fabulously fit
The men show off their six-pack look and the women scorch the screen in clothes that flatter their bodies. When you look at these style icons, it’s hard to imagine them with flab, bulging tummies and unwanted fat. A host of Bollywood celebs have transformed themselves from ‘fat to fit’ to make a mark in the industry. From Alia Bhatt to Arjun Kapoor, from Parineeti Chopra to B-town’s style diva Sonam Kapoor, some celebs have worked hard to shed those extra kilos. Arjun weighed over 130 kilos at one point and had to shed a whopping 65 kilos to get his current look.His cousin Sonam weighed over 90 kilos before she lost 30 kilos to get her Saawariya look. As for Alia, she lost her puppy fat by shedding 16 kilos for her film. Other flab to fab stories include that of Parineeti Chopra and Jackie Bhagnani.
Model and Miss India finalist Niharika Nag too went from flab to fab to take part in the pageant. The svelte lass weighed 75 kilos at one point and lost her extra weight to reach 53 kilos. “Maintaining your body after losing weight is easier than the journey towards building it. I like Arjun Kapoor’s look — he looks fit rather than just thin.”Niharika says that the book ‘The Secret’ helped her achieve her goal. “The journey from being fat to skinny changed me physically and mentally. Becoming thin or losing weight the right way is about finding that inner strength and trusting that you can do it. Youngsters should never look at a celeb and think they are starving. Most of them eat a balanced diet and workout.”
Actress Sonakshi Sinha still doesn’t fit the slim category, but she had a lot of extra weight before and lost around 30 kilos to get her Dabangg look. In Hollywood, actress and singer Jennifer Hudson’s astonishing ‘size 16 to size 6’ story inspired many. Sankar SB, fitness manager, Fitness First, throws more light on losing weight the right way. “Have six smaller meals a day. As for exercise, the individual should focus on three days of cardio vascular training and three days of muscular strength/endurance exercises. Cardio helps in burning excess fat and muscular endurance helps in toning muscles and increasing fat free mass. This is a healthy weight loss regime.”
Sandalwood actor Vinayak Joshi, who was once made fun of for being fat, took to running to lose weight. “One morning, I just woke up and started running — 118 kgs was too much for me to run. I found some information that said that your total weight divided by 15 is the amount of water to be consumed in liters. This water therapy helped me lose 8 kilos initially. I quit fried food, oil-based dishes and sweets.”
