Farah’s fed up of the acting rigmarole

There’s good news for any leading lady who gets roped into Farah Khan’s next venture. Ever since the choreographer-turned-director turned actress with Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, she has got a taste of what it feels like to be in front of the camera and all of its attendant hardships.

“Putting on makeup, doing endless dress rehearsals and posing for photo sessions bores me to death,” Farah exclaims. “Why do actresses have to look pretty?”
While we forbore to remind Farah of the gruelling paces she put Katrina Kaif through for the Sheila Ki Jawaani number in her film Tees Maar Khan, Farah was already onto another topic that’s close to her heart: The poster unveilings for Shirin Farhad. Featuring Farah and her co-star Boman Irani in a recreation of some of the most romantic poses from films. The third and newest poster has Farah-Boman do a classic SRK-Kajol impersonation from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
Farah says of the posters, “These are marketing strategies. Obviously I’m not new to all this. As a filmmaker, I’ve had to do my bit of promotions etc. But I didn’t know what a task it was for an actor to promote a film. Now that I’ve seen both sides of the coin, I’m going to be a lot more tolerant!”
Farah adds that she already had a plan in place when she heard of the teaser posters, “I immediately knew I wanted Karan ) to unveil the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai look and Shah Rukh for the DDLJ poster launch. In fact I spoke to Shah Rukh two months ago to ensure that he could make it for the event.”
Farah had previously mentioned that she will be cutting down on her choreography assignments and won’t ever act in another film again. She clarifies, “I don’t have the time to choreograph too many songs. I only do it for my brother Sajid and certain other opportunities that appeal to me.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
