F1 stage set for college rockstars
It’s not just the adrenaline-pumping race at the Formula One Grand Prix in Noida that the capital’s youngsters are looking forward to. It’s much more than that. With variety of performances by artists and amateurs, city youngsters are in for a gala time!
As a part of their initiative, Rock The Race, organisers are providing artistically inclined college students a chance to show their talent along with performances by national and international artists.
“Along with Vishal-Shekhar and Shaan, some selected college bands get an opportunity to perform at India’s biggest motor sport event, the 2012 Formula1 Indian Grand Prix to find hidden talent in the young students,” says an official statement from Jaypee Sports International Limited (JPSI).
Embracing the opportunity, Bamanjeet Singh Kalra, a member of the dance group Bhangra Nights (from Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Rohini), says, “It could not have got bigger for us. There were so many groups contesting to perform, we feel elated to have got a chance.”
Bamanjeet thinks that these are few events where youngsters really get noticed by a larger crowd.
“People who will see us performing would know that we’ve got real talent, as it will be a live performance,” he says.
For some, it’s like a dream come true. A group of 11 members from the Hindu College will be performing some rock music along with the roaring sound of world’s fastest machines as a backdrop.
Stoned Age, the rock band from Hindu College, is among the six final college teams that have been chosen to perform at the tracks. Nikhil Sardana, a B.Com student and a member of the band, says that it’s a lifetime opportunity that he has got. “When we first got to know about the audition three weeks back, we were not sure that we would get such a big opportunity. I’m sure it will give us the big break that we need,” says Nikhil, who is not even bothered about being paid for performing at the event. The exposure is all that matters!
Youngsters think that such events are really good for them, as it doesn’t just promote them as artistes but also help them meet new people. “Usually, we perform at the college fests, where we meet only college students. But something like this helps us connect with newer people from fields that we wish to enter in future. It’s providing us a platform that we would have kept looking for till very late,” says B.Tech student. Yashvardhan Sharma from the fusion band, Eclectic Notes that too has been selected for the performance.
