Exes say let’s move on

It seems some B-town actors have become mature when it comes to handling their relationships. While earlier, Salman Khan, usually known for brash behaviour with his exes, set an example by continuing his friendship with ex-flame Katrina Kaif, more recently Deepika Padukone said that she and ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor are keen to work with each other. Deepika even attended Ranbir’s surprise birthday party recently and now, there’s news of both of them working together in a film.
Earlier, because of soured relationships, many actors had stopped working with each other, maintaining friendship was thought to be a far-fetched dream. But now, it looks the attitude is changing, not only in Bollywood but in real life too.
Youngsters say that the trend among Bollywood stars of forgetting, forgiving and moving ahead happily as friends, exists in real life as well. “No one wants to keep grudges and sulk. It’s difficult to make a relationship work in today’s time when life has become much more demanding. And it’s okay to move on happily and accept that the relationship didn’t work for various reasons than sulking over it,” says Apeksha Gupta, who is happily married and good friends with her ex-boyfriend too.
B.Tech student Aditi Sinha, who recently broke up with her boyfriend, who she’s known since school days, says that she could not have afforded to sulk over it. “My relationship with him didn’t work because we are very different from each other. However, we have common friends and neither of us wanted to spoil our friendship with them because of our break-up, hence we continue to be friends. We meet at social gatherings, go out together for trips and enjoy life like earlier. It’s just that we are no longer in a committed relationship,” says Aditi, who believes it’s a more practical approach to handle a relationship.
Agrees business student Sajal Banerjee, who currently is in a relationship with one of his ex’s good friends. “We called it quits because we started feeling uneasy in each other’s company. After sometime, I began talking to one of her friends and now we are dating each other. We meet at parties and other places and have remained friends,” says Sajal.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
