Excited to be a mum

With barely a week to go before Priyanka Alva Oberoi gives birth to a baby, the joyous expectancy of pregnancy is quite evident. With the baby glow in full bloom, looking calm and relaxed in a white and black flowy ensemble, during a recent interview, she said, “Though February 10 is my due date, the baby could be born anytime now. It is the most beautiful moment in my life. Giving birth to a new life is so special.”

We couldn’t resist asking how good Vivek has been as an expectant daddy and she is quick to respond, “We have been practicing hypno-birthing as a couple for sometime. It is a no-intervention, natural and profound method that teaches comfortable birthing through deep relaxation and freedom from fear. My dad’s sister Sarojini, who is a hypnotherapy expert, is helping me. I have practiced yoga for many years and continue to do so. It has become an intrinsic part of my life now. I would advise every mom-to-be to practice pre-natal yoga and also watch the movie In the Womb that shows how external factors affect the internal ones. Vivek has been very supportive all through and has made juices and even given a foot massage,” she quips, adding, “I have taken full advantage of him all this while.”
Talking about the last two years after moving to Mumbai, post her marriage, she says, “Vivek and I travelled around the world to some really beautiful places. Apart from our holidays, I would accompany him on locations to cities like Baroda, Delhi and other cities in India. But the best time we had was in Bali. Visiting new countries is always exciting. We have done our bit of romantic and adventure holidays. My mom (Nandini) also loves to travel, so I think I have got her travel gene. I have no complaints. He’s a great husband.”
She signs off saying, “As per my dad’s family tradition, I will be staying with my mom for 40 days after the baby is born.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
