Everyday objects in new avataar
She is a new generation artist whose paintings make you see everyday objects in a new light. She believes that there is so much to bring out on canvas that if you want to paint all of it, life would prove to be too short to go beyond the surroundings.
Purva Kanda’s collection titled “Inheritence”, that is on display at Triveni Kala Sangam, tries to portray how she sees everything around her and how, according to her, everything should be.
“I just like to paint everything I notice — from paper airplanes, to switchboards to the metro. But sometimes, I like to mix and match things to show them how they should be instead of how they are. I like things to be colourful and feel unhappy with the way many things are around us,” shares Purva.
Purva belongs to a family of artists and believes that she has inherited the talent and skills that are needed in the field, the reason she named her collection “Inheritence”.
Talking about her fascination with everyday objects, Purva shares, “Everything around us has a meaning. Take switchboards, for example. We don't really realise the importance but they are the first thing we look for when we enter our homes in the darkness."
“Similarly, I painted my brother's bicycle lying on the balcony of third floor to show how we have lost spaces for the children to ride their bicycles. Though I paint some very regular things, still there is a message in everything I paint,” she concludes.
