Esha was on a learning spree

Esha Deol and Arjan Bajwa are buddies; both agree they took time to warm up to each other on the sets. However, their crackling chemistry was evident as they sat down for a tête-a-tête about their latest release — Tell Me O Kkhuda.
Esha, who’s back after nearly a two-year hiatus, doesn’t look anxious. Working in a home production, being directed by her mum and working alongside her dad may look like a comfort zone to an outsider. But for Esha it was more than just work. She says, “Working with mom and dad was very easy, but I wasn’t just an actor on the sets. I found myself responsible for how things were being managed. I found myself checking if Rishiji got his lunch, if Arjan’s room was comfortable.”
A national level footballer, Odissi dancer and an actor, is directing a film next on her agenda? Esha clarifies, “Not yet. I want to concentrate on acting for some years. I haven’t thought about direction, it’s way too early.”
Justifying her break from the industry was essential, Esha says, “This sabbatical was needed and is worth it. I was keen to revive our production house and in the interim period was involved in the scripting stage of the film as well. I also learned how a film is edited, this has been a great learning experience for me.”
Meanwhile, Delhi lad Arjan is hopeful the film may prove to be his lucky mascot like it was for Shah Rukh Khan who acted in Hema Malini’s directorial debut Dil Aashna Hai in 1992. He says, “I seriously hope Diwali proves to be lucky for me second time around. My earlier film Fashion was released on Diwali as well.”
Since the film focuses on Esha’s hunt for her birth father and Arjan is her boyfriend, when asked if he was worried about being sidelined in the movie, Arjan answers, “No, I am an integral part of the film. If I am there in 99 per cent of the frame, how can I be side-lined?” All praise for Arjan, Esha says, “He advised me on several things and we have a good chemistry which shows. We didn’t have to try hard to be friends.” As far as her mom is concerned, Esha reveals, “She is a hard taskmaster. She knew how to get the best out of me.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
