Enchanting aerial ballet of knockout Kung Fu
About 12-year-old children performing terrifying backflips, landing on the crowns of their heads. A performer balancing whole body weight on the tip of a spear, fighters somersault wielding rattling tin swords.
A three-hour long performance that combines traditional martial arts skill with aerial ballet, magnificent scenery, lighting, dance, enchanting music and special effects, The Legends of Kung Fu will knock-your-eyes out. With a cast of 65 performers, it tells a story of a young boy, Chun Yi, who is apprenticed to learn the ancient art of Kung Fu. Designated as the main show of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, after 3,000 performances worldwide, the risk to get injured in the show always exists, says one of the artists, Li Dazhong.
The show is tiring, and requires lots of energy, he says. So what does the team do to rejuvenate? “To feel at home, we bring our own cook to prepare food,” smiles Dazhong.
