Duo embark on journey of life

A car trip from London to Delhi that covered 15 countries and required planning for more than one-and-a-half years; another trip in a Nano from Delhi to Ladakh; and the most recent one, a trans-Himalayan trip from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh — all this and more have been the achievements of Tushar Agarwal and Sanjay Madan.

The duo’s trips have already got them a place in the Limca book of records. Now, the trans-Himalayan trip from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, in which the team drove night and day without stopping, and only on the hills without touching the plains, has also entered the Limca book of records. “It will be added in the next year’s edition,” says Tushar, who left his well-paying IT job in the UK for an adventurous one.
The 31-year-old Delhi-boy, along with his travel enthusiast friend, Sanjay has started Journeys By Road, a company that would organise “off-beat” adventurous trips for interested people.
And their most interesting trip would be the one to Bangkok in 2013. “While an easier road route to Bangkok via Myanmar will open in 2016, we are planning a trip passing through China,” says Tushar, who knnows his way around China having taken the same route during his first road trip from London to Delhi.
“The problem with these trips is getting the permit from the countries. Just getting the permit for a couple from the Chinese authorities costs more than five lakhs and takes about four months,” informs Tushar.
But the duo have become a pro at organising trips. Tushar says that one of his dream projects is to travel across the continents. He would like to call it an “epic journey”. “We are planning a trip that will cover six continents — a world trip by road that would be six months long,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
