DU vents anger on FB

The classes at Delhi University started long back in July, but the admissions under various reserved sections are still on. However, the Supreme Court verdict, which says that a maximum 10% reduction will be seen in the eligibility criteria to fill up the vacant OBC (Other Backward Class) seats, has forced the colleges to come up with a fresh cut-off list. This decision has angered many general category students and to protest against this a few students have also formed a group ‘Protest against DU cut-off list’ on popular net-working website Facebook.
The group has already got more than 800 members and many students are venting out their anger on this public platform to express their frustration. The administrators of this group feel that this system is “unjustified” and mention, “This page is made to gather all the students who are suffering from this issue to protest against DU high cut-off. It is created to demand for more seats, better colleges and a lower cut-off for general category students.”
Sidhant Bansal, a student, feels different cut-off lists for different categories is unfair and the government should not encourage it. He says, “In which country do people discriminate on the basis of class and religion? I hate reservation system and a few vote greedy politicians spoiled our life by forcing it on us.”
To express her anger Sanah Mehta, a student from Hansraj College, mentions on the group wall, “Talk about equality in this country! India might just be the first country in the world where the majority suffers more than the minority.”
Kunal Turai, a DU student, feels that the average students suffer the most in such complex admission system. He says, “The classes for DU already started long back and now newcomers will have a tough time coping with the syllabus. Now that we’ll have semester system, there won’t be much time to repeat what has already been covered. Teachers are also fed up with constant influx of students every week.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
